Abbeville House Storm Damaged? Rely on the Professionals from SERVPRO
Remediating Flood Damage In Abbeville Homes
Quick access to Highway 90 and I-10 makes Abbeville a good location for transportation and other businesses. However, the Vermilion River running through the middle of town also causes homeowners to suffer through several floods over the years.
To mediate the effects of flood damage in Abbeville homes, SERVPRO restoration technicians work quickly to remove floodwater, debris and then dry the home that returns it to its original condition whenever possible. As an example, a previous flood in a four-bedroom required each technician to use a variety of devices from our equipment inventory, as well as several cleaning agents needed specifically for the contaminated or ‘black’ water present in every flooded home.
Before pulling anything else off the service truck, team members pull on protective gear to spray a strong, anti-microbial agent. They started at every entry point into the home, covering the surface of the standing water and every item that may have been covered by the flooding before it began to recede.
With the health risk mediated, other SERVPRO technicians bring in pumps and other water extraction devices as needed. The pumps are excellent for deeper flooding at least ankle-high. Here, however, the smaller extractors were sufficient. Besides drawing off the water, they also worked well to pull water from the carpet throughout the home and helped protect the wood floor in the living room from cracking or splitting. Since this was ‘black’ water, the team disposed of all carpeting immediately after removing the water.
Next, the team set up a series of exhaust fans, air movers, and dehumidifiers to dry the structure while also cleaning affected furniture and structural property. For items like upholstered fabric, they used a milder cleaner to avoid staining the item or cause the color to run. In the bathroom and kitchen, technicians used a much stronger cleaner, including a sterilant on metal and tile. Flood cuts in the walls to remove ruined sheetrock may be in order. The length of the restoration varies from days to weeks, depending on the circumstances.
